Does anyone remember the Happiness movement inspired by the Peanuts musical ~ “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” ?………………”Happiness is……….a warm puppy.” It was such a great way to find things to be happy about. Gratitude and Happiness are co-joined twins. You can’t have one without the other.

“Happiness” from “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!”
************
- Charlie Brown: Happiness is, finding a pencil
- Snoopy: Pizza with sausage
- Linus: Telling the time
- Schroeder: Happiness is, learning to whistle
- Linus: Tying your shoe for the very first time!
- Patty/Sally : Happiness is playing the drums in your own, school band
- Charlie Brown: And happiness, is walking hand in hand.
- Charlie Brown: Happiness is, two kinds of ice cream
- Lucy: Knowing a secret
- Schroeder: Climbing a tree
- Charlie Brown: Happiness is, five different crayons
- Schroeder: Catching a firefly
- Linus: Setting him free
- Charlie Brown: Happiness, is being alone every now, and then
- Everybody: And happiness, is coming home again.
- Charlie Brown: Happiness is, morning and evening, daytime and nightime too. For happiness, is anyone, and anything, at all, that’s loved, by you!
- Linus: Happiness, is having a sister
- Lucy: Sharing a sandwich
- Lucy and Linus: Getting along!
- Everybody: Happiness, is singing together when day, is through, and happiness is those who sing with you.
- Everybody: Happiness is morning and evening, daytime and nightime too.
- Charlie Brown: For happiness, is anyone, and anything, at all, that’s loved, by you!
- Lucy: (spoken) You’re a good man, Charlie Brown.

I have always liked the Peanuts. I have two friends who are doing two different productions of this musical. The song is great. ~Meg

Thanks, Meg! I’ve always liked the Peanuts gang too! My son was ‘Charlie’ in the musical in 5th grade. ❤

I love your sketches, and the Happiness movement is exactly what we need. I also loved what Charlie Brown and other characters thought about happiness. Happiness is so different to all of us. It captures that sentiment beautifully.

Thank you Gulara! The timing seemed just right back then in the mid Seventies. Let’s hope for another Happiness movement in current times. 🙂

This brought back a memory, Mary Lou. When I was a kid, I was given a “Happiness Is…” book. It was a small hardback with Charles Schultz’s spare drawings of the Peanuts characters to go along with each of the happiness points. As a big Peanuts fan, I enjoyed the book…but didn’t really get it…I was a kid…happiness was easy! I hate to say that as an adult I have to “work” at happiness, but rather, it’s a lot easier to forget it, move it to the bottom of the To Do list, below seemingly more pressing concerns.

Glad I sparked a memory for you with this post, Nancy! Charles Schultz was a genius! He knew we all needed the Peanuts Gang to remind us to find things to be happy about. 🙂

I hadn’t heard of the happiness is movement, but you’re right – happiness and gratitude do go hand in hand.

It was back in the Seventies. It stays in my memory because my son was ‘Charlie’ in the musical and had to sing that song in the video. 🙂

🙂 You’re welcome, Dahlia! My son was ‘Charlie’ in his school play when in 5th grade so ‘happiness’ has special meaning for me. ❤

You’re right about happiness and gratitude going hand in hand. Being happy means being grateful for all the good and bad because it makes you who you are. And in the end, all we can be is ourselves. Why not take comfort in it?

I wrote about Happiness too! http://themarthareview.com/h-is-for-happiness/ We all can find some kind of happiness, even if just sharing a smile with someone. Just think if everyone smiled and laughed, the world would be full of happiness!

I had completely forgotten about the ‘Happiness Is’ movement – maybe we need to bring it back. I think Happiness will be a popular topic today in the A-Z Challenge. We can all do with happiness in our lives and learn that we can find it in the most simplest things like a sunrise, a flower or as I do, in my grandson. Sue @Sizzling60 from
