My theme for the A to Z Blog Challenge @AprilA2Z during the month of April is ~ My Life Is My Masterpiece ~ Lessons Learned
COMES THE DAWN
After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,
And you learn to build all your roads on today,
Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure…
That you really are strong,
And you really do have worth.
And you learn and learn.

I love the line in the first poem “plant your own garden and decorate your own soul’.
In the end, we must be accountable for our own happiness because no one can create it for us 🙂

So true! I still like to receive flowers and be inspired by others. I guess the difference is it’s no longer an expectation.

Good advice. In fact, everything here is good advice! Thanks.

That’s a tough piece of advice. When I return to thoughts of the past that are hurtful, I try to remember this.

that poem sums up so much about the truth depth of self worth – shame it’s taken me until my 50’s to figure it out! Looking forward to your trust post tomorrow! Leanne @ cresting the hill

That’s one of the reasons why I made my theme for AtoZ about ‘Lessons Learned’. Maybe we need to all learn in our own time and in our own way. 🙂
