April World Holidays

Chinese Language Day – April 20, 2019

Chinese Day

“More than one billion people speak Chinese language as their first language — that’s more than any other population in the world! UNESCO (part of the United Nations) first created Chinese Language Day in 2010 to celebrate Chinese as one of the six official languages of the United Nations. We’ve enjoyed it every year since then on April 20. The day also celebrates Cangjie, who invented Chinese characters about 5,000 years ago. Legend says that when Cangjie finished, the gods rained grain upon the earth.”

This past November 2018 I took part in the Nibvember 2018 Challenge.  Day 27 prompt was Lettering and I came up with the design below.  It’s easy to see where my inspiration came from as I’d participated in the A to Z Challenge Lessons Learned in 2016. So, feeling the call to try once again for A To Z Challenge 2019, I decided to sign up for this years using this design as my inspiration.

  1. Mary Lou – I do speak Chinese! Used to be fluent, but less so now. Having lived in Taiwan for a year and Hong Kong for six, I’ve been very much influenced by Chinese culture and customs — but I’d never heard of this holiday!
