Me In The Middle of Creating My Life

 A New Creation

~ A poem about finding expression through art ~

One thing that tough times have taught me is to look to the center of things….. the center of me where I hope to find a way to move forward through whatever is going on in my life. It’s not always easy, especially when there’s a lot going on and things get really overwhelming. What works for others is not always the answer for you.

During one period of my life, it seemed I was searching nonstop for ways to get through the stress, chaos and upheaval that kept coming my way. I walked (a lot!), I exercised (a lot!), I meditated/prayed (a lot…), I wrote and created poems (off and on….) (Sometimes I partied (a lot!), Sometimes I drank (moderately…), Sometimes I totally stressed out! (a lot!) …. And that’s OK too! 🙂

It was during this time when I discovered the power of creating through ART. It’s my go-to escape from life’s tough times and it has never failed me. You don’t have to be perfect …. just express yourself and let go.

So I’m sharing with you a poem I wrote, during that chaotic time, about discovering my life through the joy of creating art.

 A New Creation

Dormant stirrings of artistic talent
Laying in wait for expression
Smells of turpentine and linseed oil
Stretched into my memory
Carefully laying out the tools
For bringing thoughts to life.

Palette of colors
Arranged in warm and cool sequence
Easel with stretched canvas
Assorted brushes and knives
All symbols of promise
A new creation ~ a new hope.

At last a participant
No longer the spectator
Lost in concentration
Hours pass like minutes
Strong mystical feelings of peace
This was my universe and I felt free!

Maternal love nurtures new life
Returning to touch and nourish
Inner sense of Letting Go
Stepping back to set free
Contemplating the finished product
A genuine part of me.

Choice

CHOICE

What does it mean to have a choice?

Does a child have a choice in what family they are born into?

And do we have a choice in how we are taught?

Does a child have a choice in the body they are given?

in the country they’re born into?

Or the religion (or no religion) they are raised in?

A child comes into the world trusting.

Can that child be the person they were created to be?

Or will that child be limited in the choices available to them?

It’s a wonderful, expansive world  with so many choices both good and bad.

Are we letting those we love have the freedom to learn and grow?

Or are we binding them with narrow walls that attempt to keep them

within our own small world?

Choices ~ how to teach a child to think and follow their own path…

to believe in themselves.

How to help them make the best choices for themselves.

How to let go of them and let them take that leap!

Choice ~ Take that Leap

This post is a combination of two assignments for Writing 101.  We had a choice out of six words to pick one that spoke to us and that we wanted to write about.  The other assignment was to pick a single image that inspired us.  So I picked “Choice” as my one word and two images that I felt represented what I wrote.  Be well and be happy!

Me in the Middle of Lessons Learned ~ Letter L

My Life Is My Masterpiece ~ Lessons Learned

My theme ~ Lessons Learned.  I’ll be posting a word that begins with each letter of the alphabet that fits my theme.   This blog/website has become one way to share about myself to my children, my grandchildren and my extended family who are scattered all over the country and the world.  Hopefully, anyone who reads this will be in some way blessed by my throwing my words out onto the World Wide Web and into the Universe.

My About Page gives me the focus so that, as I age, I don’t forget what I worked so hard to learn.  It’s going to be fun and challenging!   I hope you’ll stick with me as I strive to meet my goal!!

Letting Go

(c) MLQ

It was this poem about Letting Go, written by a friend of mine, that inspired my sketch. It spoke to me of the process that we need to go through when traumatic events come into our lives and knock us off our course.
